RESTAURANT LULL
Fukui Prefecture, which prospered during the Edo period with the Kitamae ship trade, is now the site of a project to renovate a traditional house of the Komatsu family, who were ship owners of the Kitamae ships from Mikuni, into a French restaurant. The concept is to envelop the interior with warm light and gentle wood in this place where the Sea of Japan is rough and the sky is gray and people are sparse in winter. The existing fittings and transoms by Miyamae carpenters were utilized, and the flame of a stove imported from Sweden welcomes people in the entrance’s earthen floor. At the end of the spacious dining table, there are seats overlooking the sea, where people can enjoy the changing sunset over time. The calmness (LULL), which is also the name of the restaurant, lies there, in perfect harmony with the colors of the food.
